This was a recent article I was interviewed for by Global News. In summary, low back pain is now the leading cause of disability worldwide. For many of us, this pain is chronic, meaning we have had it for a long time. We often experience pain due to a lack of conditioning of our back and core muscles. When we exercise, we strengthen the muscles which support our back. If we don’t exercise, these muscles gradually become weaker. Weak muscles are not able to stabilize the back as well, thus causing pain.

Similar to brushing our teeth and maintaining good dental hygiene, we need to practice good spinal hygiene by doing exercises and conditioning our core. By making this part of daily habit can we strengthen our lower back muscles and reduce the occurrence of lower back pain.
